Herb-Roasted Turkey Recipe
The best way to season a turkey can be as easy as using a mix of herbs and spices. This simple herb-roasted turkey recipe takes minimal prep time, so you can focus on the rest of your holiday dishes while the turkey cooks in the oven to a tender, juicy finish.
Ingredients:
- 1 (12-pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
- 3/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon ground sage
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups water
Instructions:
- Prep the turkey: Preheat your oven to 325°F. Clean the turkey thoroughly and pat it dry with paper towels. Place it in a roasting pan with a lid.
- Mix the seasoning: In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, dried basil, ground sage, salt, and black pepper.
- Season the turkey: Use a basting brush to spread the herb and oil mixture evenly over the outside of the turkey.
- Add water: Pour 2 cups of water into the bottom of the roasting pan to keep the turkey moist while roasting.
- Roast: Cover the roasting pan and place it in the oven. Cook for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 180°F.
- Rest before serving: Take the turkey out of the oven and let it rest for about 30 minutes before carving.
- Serve: Carve and serve while hot. Enjoy your perfectly roasted turkey!
